Tori Spelling focuses on her desire to raise her kids in a normal environment while still living the celebrity lifestyle.
Having grown up in the public’s eye, Spelling is used to dealing with people staring at her and feels perfectly comfortable on the red carpet. So when she and her family moved into their first real suburban house, her dreams of suburbia were coming true. All she wanted was to be part of the community. But being Tori Spelling, she discovered that that was not as easy as she thought it would be. Mommywood focuses on her new role as mother of two. First of all, she has a reality show on Oxygen, and there are camera crews following her around. For a quiet suburban neighborhood this was perceived by the residents as being intrusive. She didn’t feel comfortable there and she felt the neighbors were not comfortable with her family, so in the end they moved to a more secluded house where she could close off the paparazzi with a gate at the end of her driveway. Celebrity ups and downsSpelling admits that being a celebrity has its perks. She can get things for free and people do things for her. But she also admits there are many downsides. And she goes into both of these aspects in the book. Mother / Daughter relationshipWhat she also delves into are her neuroses, of which she has plenty. She is not afraid to divulge her fears and insecurities. And she is definitely not afraid to continually bring up the conflict with her mother and her resentment of the way her mother treated her all of her life. According to Spelling, they never had a great relationship and she is determined to forge a strong bond with her new daughter Stella. She is also afraid of making the same mistakes she feels her mother made with her, but she also admits that when she sees herself in that vain she is cognizant of it and determined to do things differently. What she wants more than anything is a great relationship with her kids. Tori also describes the fact that her son Liam is closer to her husband Dean than to her, which causes her some concern. Finding humor in stressful situationsBut even though there are some frustrations and upsetting elements in her life, there are also some funny things that this woman goes through. And readers will definitely be amused at many of her experiences. Take the time her son pooped in the swimming pool. Or the time she couldn’t figure out how to close the double stroller and put it in the car so she had to leave it in the parking lot. These episodes will endear her even more to her fans. Tori Spelling is a delightful writer and a celebrity who does not hold back. What she thinks and feels goes right onto the pages of this book. Readers will get a better understanding of what makes her tick. And they will see the humor in her life. Tori Spelling may kvetch about some things, but she does it in a fun manner. It’s a fun book and a great read. And there will be plenty of moments when you will laugh out loud.
